A transnational research project on the digitisation of cultural heritage and activities

The Project

The Embassy and Consulate General of the Netherlands in Italy approached BAM! to carry out a research project in the field of digital innovation and digitisation of the national cultural heritage.

Why?

The link between digital and culture is a wide-ranging and complex issue that has returned to the centre of contemporary cultural debate. The pandemic experience has accelerated the development of new models, processes, paradigms and perspectives on how digital can become a strategic tool not only for the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage, but also as regards audience engagement in the cultural sector.

Starting from the Italian and Dutch cultural institutions’ current digitisation status, the project aims to identify themes for comparison between the two countries, particularly as regards common challenges and opportunities.

One of the project’s main objectives is to establish a dialogue between the two countries and create fertile ground for future synergies.

How?

In addition to the research aspect, the project also involves mapping Italian best practices and organising three roundtables between Dutch and Italian cultural institutions.

BAM! and the Dutch Embassy will hold the three roundtables in January and February 2022, following different perspectives on digital innovation in the cultural sector: platforms and data; engagement and audiences; policies and strategies.

The aim is to open up a space dedicated to the topic, gathering different perspectives and experiences from cultural institutions and organisations, and eventually laying the foundations for further comparisons and collaborations.
